Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 page. You will find all of the things you should need to know for the year. Year 3 is a key year and involves the children taking greater responsibility for their own learning. That said, we are very keen to work together as a partnership, with the children, parents, teachers and school, working together to help us 'to be the best that we can be'. Please feel free to contact the Year 3 team if you have something you wish to ask or would like to discuss. We have an open-door policy and will see you as soon as possible.

About this class

Reading

Our expectation is that children should be supported with their reading at home at least three times a week, and we ask that parents and carers record when they have read with their children.

Spellings

10 words per week, from a list of Year 3 spelling words. Spellings can be accessed through Spelling Shed, a free app on which the children can play games and practise their spellings.

PE days

Lobsters: Tuesday and Thursday

Penguins: Tuesday and Wednesday

In KS1 the children are taught their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. In Year 3 we teach the children their 3, 4, 6 and 8 times tables.

We aim to go on two school trips during the year. One is a Geography fieldwork trip and the other is linked with our History and Science topics in the Autumn term.

Year 3 children take part in Bike-ability sessions in November each year, run by the Plymouth School Sports Partnership. Bikes are provided by the instructors and it is a great opportunity to practise and develop cycling proficiency.
