About this curriculum
Intent
Art is accessible and inclusive at EVPS to all learners regardless of needs, ability, or disability. We challenge, include, and extend all learners enabling them to fully explore a creative, imaginative world of aesthetic appraisal, discovery, and creation. Art learning and Art lessons are joyful! Children experience a range of starting points and stimuli, including known artists and local practitioners working in a range of different ways. Three-dimensional work, contemporary pieces, work form the past and present are explored as ways to begin and inform a project. This will allow all our children to be experimental, imaginative, and critically creative individuals. During their time at EVPS, children will experience working individually and collaboratively to allow cooperation as well as independence to flourish through a creative project.
Implementation
Children are taught specific art skills and techniques which they are then given opportunities to apply and develop as creative, experimental and confident artists. Children experience high quality discrete teaching of art planned to ensure they work through the process of exploration of a stimulus, development of a main piece of work and finally, critical appraisal of an outcome. Teachers will use a variety of artists, designers and craft makers and sculptors to ensure an excellent range of inspiration and stimulus for learning within our art curriculum. Our school provides opportunities for the children’s artwork to be displayed and appreciated.
Impact
Our children’s aesthetic, creative journey will lead them to be confident in experimenting with a variety of techniques and to become imaginative and creative individuals. They will have developed excellent knowledge about a wide range of artists and makers and will confidently use reference work in creating their own unique artwork. Our children will confidently improve their mastery with a range of materials. They will have the skills and knowledge necessary to critically review their learning. Children at EVPS will be nurtured to love Art and feel proud of their outcomes!
